August 14 - 2 Lady Scramble - The Ladies League enjoyed an easy going 2 Lady Scramble today as the course returned to normal following Raspberry Days.  Kaye Peterson edged out Bonnie Allen to win "closest to the hole" on #6 and also drained a long putt to Birdie #3.  The twosome of Bonnie Allen and Susan Hayward posted the lowest score with 39.

It was another great day of golf and fun at Bear Lake West, so be sure to join us Thursday August 21, at 9 A.M. for the "Poker Hand".  We aren't exactly sure what that is, but we are sure it will be fun.

August 7, 2008 - String Game - Following the challenge last week of using only three clubs, the ladies got a break today with the "String Game".  Each participant was given a string of licorice which varied in length depending upon their previous game scores.  The lower their previous scores, the shorter the string of licorice.  Each player could use their string twice a hole to improve their ball position without taking a penalty stroke.

Most found the licorice kept them out of trouble as they moved balls from behind trees, out of sand traps, and closer to the hole once on the greens.  Bonnie Allen and Martha Burbidge both birdied a hole by using their licorice strings.  Diane Ballard and Patty McMurdie found their strings were too short to be of much use, but Beverly Hensley found that her's was just long enough to get her into serious trouble.  Realizing that she had enough length on her string to get her out of the ditch on #7, she reached in to retrieve her ball and fell face first into the water.  Peggy Richardson was the first in the foursome to render assistance, but by attempting to lift Beverly's head out of the water, she tried to spin her around and threw her legs in.  Once fully submerged in the ditch, Beverly was able to get her footing and retrieve her ball.  Everyone went on to finish a fun and safe round of golf and Beverly thought the refreshing dip on #7 actually improved the rest of her round.

Join us next Thursday, August 14 at 9:00 A.M., for the two person scramble.

July 31, 2008 - July Award Luncheon - The Silverstixs held their first award luncheon today following a round of golf.  There was a great turnout with 15 ladies attending and several new members signing up.  In addition to individual scores, the ladies kept track of the number of total putts during today's round.  Susan Hayward took honors with 13.

Numerous award were given at the luncheon with top honors for low individual score going to Louise Belina.  Scramble low score went to team members Linda Ratcliff, Nancy Sutton, and Martha Burbidge.  Some of the more unique awards given went to Judy Holbrook and Jan Frisbey for spending the most time in the sand traps and the "Compassion" award went to Phyllis Emery for saving the frog's life by returning it to the pond.

The August 7 tee times are a little earlier due to the Raspberry Day weekend so everyone should plan to be there at 8:30 AM.

July 23, 2008 - 3 Clubs Only - Golf scores rose today with the temperature as the Silverstixs were allowed to use only three clubs, including the putter.  The ladies were required to declare their three clubs on the individual score cards and most were re-thinking their selection by the second hole.  Many of the eight players gave the #1 Driver (AKA Big Dog) the day off and relied on the trusted fairway wood or long iron.  The majority also carried a short iron or wedge and a putter.

Several golf balls were donated to the rough, the water, and in some cases trees today as the group moved around the course.  Judy Coombs tried to donate a few to the sky, but these were returned and if anyone finds a beautiful new pink ball in the big spruce tree on #6, Phyllis Emery would like it returned.  Juldy Holbrook was ready to leave a ball in the right side bunker on #8 but after several shots she was able to dig out.  By the way, one of her three clubs was a Sand Wedge!
